Swallowing assessment and Intervention
I have a policy of seeing mealtime clients at least twice before altering a mealtime plan. This is to ensure that modifications are not made lightly.
For simple mealtime plans an allocation of 5 hours of assessment and intervention is usually sufficient. Though this can vary if there is added complexity. The 5 hours include:
- 2 x face to face sessions
- 1 hour of travel
- 1 hour of liaison with stakeholders
- 1 hour to complete a mealtime
Assessment only
Sometimes ongoing intervention isn't needed. Or the person needing service is not at that point in their therapeutic journey. In this case an assessment only option may be appropriate.

Assessment and ongoing intervention
All intervention will hold some element of assessment to ensure that the correct therapeutic goals are being targeted. Once goals have been identified ongoing intervention to meet these goals may be needed. My model of therapy we will review goals every 10 weeks to determine progress and the ongoing therapeutic direction.
Please note I prefer to offer weekly and fortnightly session. I also see some clients on an as needs basis (e.g. client with degenerative conditions who will contact me when needs arise). I have found that monthly sessions generally do not provide the frequency needed to achieve good therapeutic outcomes.
